Some of the best wedding days are the ones that feel the most like the couple themselves. For Abigail and Kannon, their wedding day was relaxed, sentimental, family-centered, and filled with the little moments that made their relationship special.
From an emotional walk down the aisle to dancing parents, a cookie cake, unexpected rain, and a private last dance, their North Carolina wedding day was full of memories worth preserving.
As a North Carolina wedding photographer, I love being able to document not only the big moments, but all of the little pieces that make a wedding day uniquely yours.
Abigail and Kannon first met through mutual friends in high school. It wasn’t until Kannon made the first move that their friendship began turning into something more.
Their first date was simple—just the way they like it.
They went to Abigail’s favorite restaurant, followed by bowling and ice cream. They continued going on dates like that until they officially became a couple about three weeks later.
Their favorite things to do together haven’t changed much over the years. They enjoy binge-watching movies and TV shows, kayaking and canoeing, going to the beach, eating out, and even those quiet moments when they’re simply sitting next to each other on their phones.
For Abigail and Kannon, being together doesn’t have to mean doing something extravagant.
Sometimes, the simplest moments are the best ones.
Kannon’s proposal was incredibly meaningful because of where he chose to ask Abigail to marry him.
He proposed at a beach where his mom used to take him and his brother before she passed away 11 years ago.
The Fourth of July proposal made the evening even more memorable. After Abigail said yes, the two of them got to celebrate together while watching fireworks light up the sky.
It was a proposal surrounded by memories of family and a beautiful beginning to a new chapter in their own story.
The wedding morning was filled with excitement as everyone prepared for the celebration.
Kannon’s dad helped him get ready, while Abigail’s mom helped her prepare for the ceremony.
Their 10-month-old flower girl even joined in on the fun, helping her dad with his tie. It was an adorable, completely unscripted moment that perfectly captured the family atmosphere of the day.
Then Abigail had a spontaneous first look with her bridesmaids.
Their reactions were priceless—and apparently, the fact that Abigail’s wedding dress had pockets was almost as exciting as the dress itself.
There may have been tears, but there was definitely laughter, too.
Before walking down the aisle, Abigail and Kannon shared a quiet first touch surrounded by greenery at their getting-ready location.
Although they didn’t see each other, they were able to hold hands and spend a few peaceful moments together before the ceremony.
Then it was time for Abigail to walk down the aisle.
Kannon became emotional as he watched his bride make her way toward him, creating one of those genuine wedding-day moments that you simply can’t recreate.
Those are the moments I love most about wedding photography—the reactions that happen naturally when couples aren’t thinking about the camera.
After saying “I do,” Abigail and Kannon celebrated with their family and friends.
Their grand entrance was full of energy. Both sets of parents danced their way into the reception before the wedding party joined them.
Then the wedding party formed a tunnel for Abigail and Kannon to run through as they entered the reception.
It was fun, playful, and perfectly suited to their laid-back personalities.
The celebration continued with plenty of laughter, dancing, and time with the people who had come to celebrate their marriage.
Of course, no North Carolina wedding would be complete without a little unpredictable weather.
Rain moved through the area during the reception, but instead of letting it keep us inside all day, we watched for a break in the storm.
When we found one, we grabbed Abigail and Kannon and headed outside for a few portraits at the swing.
It was a short window, but completely worth it.
When the rain returned, mist began rolling through the mountains, creating an atmospheric backdrop that made the landscape look almost dreamlike.
The weather may not have gone according to plan, but it became part of their story—and sometimes those unexpected moments create some of the most memorable wedding photographs.
Abigail and Kannon also incorporated meaningful personal touches throughout their day.
Kannon wore special cufflinks featuring his initials, which Abigail had given him as a gift.
For their cake cutting, they skipped the traditional wedding cake and chose a cookie cake instead.
It’s a small detail, but it’s exactly the kind of personal choice that makes a wedding feel like the couple rather than a collection of traditions.
As the evening began winding down, their guests left the reception area to prepare for the sparkler exit.
Before joining them, Abigail and Kannon shared a private last dance.
For a few quiet minutes, it was just the two of them.
After a full day of family, friends, emotions, laughter, dancing, and celebration, they had a chance to pause and take it all in.
Then it was time for their sparkler exit and the beginning of married life.
Abigail and Kannon’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of their relationship.
Their story has never been about needing elaborate plans or extravagant experiences. They find happiness in the simple things—dinner dates, bowling, ice cream, beach days, outdoor adventures, movie nights, and simply being together.
Their wedding day carried that same feeling.
It was relaxed, personal, emotional, and full of people who love them.
From Kannon’s reaction as Abigail walked down the aisle to a flower girl helping with a tie, bridesmaids discovering dress pockets, portraits captured between rain showers, a cookie cake, sentimental cufflinks, and a quiet last dance, there were so many moments that made their day uniquely theirs.
Their celebration at Mayberry Meadows provided a beautiful setting for all of those memories, but it was the people, emotions, and little in-between moments that truly made the day unforgettable.
I’m so honored I got to document it all.
Congratulations, Abigail and Kannon! Here’s to a lifetime of simple dates, beach days, adventures, movie marathons, and all the little moments in between. ❤️
