Capturing Your Special Day: Should You Allow Guests to Take Photos During the Ceremony?
The question of whether or not to allow your guests to take photos during your ceremony is a tricky one. On the one hand, it’s natural to want your closest friends and family members to be able to capture special moments from your wedding day—but on the other hand, having people snapping pictures can be disruptive and distracting. So, what should you do? Let’s break down the pros and cons of allowing guests to take photos during the ceremony.
Perhaps the biggest pro in allowing your guests to take photos is that it gives them a chance to feel even more involved in celebrating your special day. Additionally, if you have any family members that were unable to attend in person—or just those who may want some extra keepsakes—allowing guests at the ceremony to snap some photos will give them something tangible that they can look back on for years. It also allows you to see your photos immediately.
On the flip side, there are also reasons why you might not want guests taking photos during your ceremony. It’s understandable that you would want everyone’s full attention focused on what’s happening rather than distracting people with flashes and clicks throughout the event. This can also lead to guests blocking each other’s view as they try to get “the perfect shot” of you saying ‘I do.’ In addition, if you have hired a professional photographer, their job may become harder as well when amateur photographers crowd around them trying for shots from similar angles. It also blinds your family and friend’s faces. Would you rather have a photo of your mom and dad crying? Or a photo of them holding their cell phone?
Ultimately, whether or not you should allow guests at your ceremony to take photos is up to you and your partner as a couple. If it feels right for both of you—and will bring joy into others’ lives—go ahead and give them permission! However, if being surrounded by cameras isn’t quite your style or if it could potentially disrupt an otherwise solemn occasion, then politely let them know that professional photographs will be taken and shared with all later on after the event has concluded. No matter which path you choose for capturing memories from this special day, remember that ultimately this is about celebrating love between two people—and no photo can truly capture how amazing it feels!
